Bard is committed to supporting its faculty through mentoring, professional development, and recognition. The primary goals of mentoring at Bard are orientation, knowledge of resources, formation of strong community ties, equity in professional opportunities, and the development of connections across the college and beyond.
The Bard Faculty Mentoring Program consists of four main elements:
- New Faculty Cohort Mentoring: Each entering cohort of new faculty will have two assigned mentors that work with the group throughout a two-year period, supporting faculty members in areas that are outside of their programmatic homes. In addition, the two directors of mentoring at Bard will offer group mentoring and regular drop-in lunch and coffee meetings.
- Program Mentoring: Program Directors assist and mentor faculty at all stages of their academic careers in terms of professional development including, for instance, development of courses, review of Course and Faculty Evaluation (CAFÉ) forms, preparation of evaluation files, and—more generally—assessing their own scholarly activities, navigating the institution, and acclimating to their divisional home.
- Center for Faculty and Curricular Development (CFCD): The CFCD offers programming and support for faculty at all stages in their teaching and professional development. For more information, see the CFCD calendar of events.
- National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD): As a member of the NCFDD, Bard College supports faculty participation in NCFDD workshops, 14-day writing challenges offered throughout the year (open to all), faculty success program (by application), etc.
